Originally titled Earthquake Country, the third album from the Dead was finally released as the palindrome Aoxomoxoa. Often thought as the start of one of the most innovative periods in the Dead’s career, Aoxomoxoa was the first album to feature the pianist Tom Constanten as a permanent member and also the first from the songwriting partnership of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter.
The cover artwork has gained the album the Rolling Stone accolade of eighth best cover of all time.
