Gifted with good looks, talent, and a multi-octave voice, Tim Buckley was born in Washington, D.C., on Valentine's Day 1947, and raised in Orange County, California, just south of L.A. The singer/songwriter/musician/producer signed his first label deal before he was 20, and cut nine remarkable albums between 1966 and 1975. Buckley's best music reflected the turbulent '60s, yet doesn't sound the least bit dated, conceptually or stylistically.
Buckley defied categorization throughout his career and possessed one of music's most versatile voices. He could sing like an Irish tenor one moment, improvise with a jazz-master flair the next, and then belt an R&B song like a born soul-shouter. While he enjoyed tons of respect from his peers and had developed a sizeable following by the time of his death at age 28, he was and remains one of the era's most underappreciated artists. (Two decades later, Tim's son, Jeff Buckley, achieved critical success as a musician himself before his own tragic demise in 1997.)
Produced in conjunction with the Buckley family and estate, Morning Glory: The Tim Buckley Anthology is the first comprehensive collection of the legendary singer/songwriter's most essential works, gathered together on two CDs. Spanning 1966-1975, the set also includes a previously unreleased early version of "Song To The Siren," as performed on the TV series The Monkees, new liner notes featuring track-by-track annotation by Tim's virtuoso guitarist, Lee Underwood, and an essay by journalist Barry Alfonso that sheds light on the Buckley saga. Underrated? Yes. But Morning Glory aims to change all that.
