Description:
Jimmy Webb was probably one of the best singer/songwriter of the 1970’s, penning huge hits for other artists (‘MacArthur Park’ for Richard Harris and‘Wichita Lineman’ for Glen Campbell to name but two). ‘Archive + Live’ contains one disc of selected tracks from his solo Warner Brothers albums and is full of great, carefully crafted songs; Webb’s own rendition of 'Galveston' is an absolute classic.
Disc two contains live performances, taped at The Royal Albert Hall in 1971 which are uniformly excellent, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra giving the songs the lushness they deserve, and giving Webb the chance to stretch out on great performances of his own 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix', 'MacArthur Park', 'Wichita Lineman', an interesting cover of Zappa's 'My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama' among many others.
