'Vogue' was directed by David Fincher who also made her 'Express Yourself' and 'Oh Father' videos. Before it was shown for the first time in March 1990, MTV complained that they could see Madge's boob through her blouse (though nowadays we imagine they'd complain they couldn't see enough!) Many of the shots recreate photographs by Horst P. Horst and famous images of Monroe, Dietrich and Veronica Lake. The dancers, choreographed by Karole Armitage, were those chosen by Madonna for her forthcoming Blond Ambition concerts. The 'vogue' dance style, featured in the video, actually originated back in the 1930s in Harlem when it was known as 'performance'.
So now you know!
