Coinciding with the release of the exciting new compilation, The Sound Of The Smiths on November 10th , Rhino UK are proud to announce the re-issue of 10 vinyl 7” singles replicating The Smiths first 10 UK issued singles between 1983 and 1986.

The singles will be released in pairs every week between November 10th and December 8th. Each of these vinyl 7” singles is strictly limited to 5000 copies of each title, housed in original sleeves and has been mastered from original tapes sources.

These singles will also be made available simultaneously as digital releases.

The first of the series couples The Smiths’ debut single for Rough Trade, “Hand In Glove”, and “This Charming Man”. This current release marks the 25th anniversary of The Smiths first hit single, “This Charming Man” which entered the official UK charts on November 12th 1983.

In addition to the weekly batches of singles, Rhino UK are also set to release a special SMITHS SINGLES BOX on December 8th: a clamshell card box containing the first ten UK-issued singles in their original picture sleeves. What makes this particularly special is the two singles which are exclusive to this box set: These unique inclusions are the projected fourth single - “Still Ill” (which was pressed only as DJ promo “A” label) but was ultimately passed over and replaced by “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” along side the Dutch release of “The Headmaster Ritual” housed in it’s black & white “cowboy” sleeve – the rarest commercially issued Smiths’ single in any territory. All singles utilise the original production masters from the period.

www.rhino.co.uk offer: get the Singles Box first from Rhino.co.uk - not only will we be shipping from 17th November, 3 weeks before it hits the shops, but all orders received before the 8th December will be entered into a draw to win a print of the cover image!  Order your copy here!

The box is completed with four contemporary badges, a poster featuring the single artworks as well as an authentication certificate that contains a unique redemption code for mp3 downloads of the tracks. An absolute must have item for Smiths‘ fans, and limited to 10,000 copies only.

Rhino is releasing these highly desirable items in tandem with the launch of The Sound Of The Smiths. This compelling set comes in a standard and deluxe 2-disc format and was done with the full co-operation of Morrissey and Johnny Marr. Morrissey provided the collection's title and Johnny Marr personally supervised the mastering. Both assisted in the track selection. The core of disc one is that matchless run of singles from “Hand In Glove” to the posthumous “Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me”. Disc two adds a further 22 tracks including rare b-sides, tracks that were exclusive to 12 inch releases and selected live recordings.

Kudos to Rhino for releasing this fantastic box set! Because The Smiths were the ONLY band from the Eighties that mattered, this set is significantly overdue and as a result incredibly WELCOMED! Rhino: PLEASE seriously consider releasing this set in compact disc form also. The follow up set is already the most anticipated release of 2009! Rhino is the BEST record label on Earth!
