The Wilburys claimed to be half-brothers, sons of Charles Truscott Wilbury. They were, in fact: George Harrison - Nelson Wilbury, Jeff Lynne - Otis Wilbury, Roy Orbison - Lefty Wilbury, Bob Dylan - Lucky Wilbury.
The first Wilburys song to be recorded, 'Handle With Care', was originally intended as a b-side to former Beatle George Harrison's next solo single, but was considered too good to waste.
Tom Petty became a member of the Wilburys when George went to retrieve a guitar he left at the rocker's house.
The first album, 'Traveling Wilburys Vol.1' was recorded in ten days with the tight deadline set by the fact that Dylan needed to go off on tour.
Wilburys were Harrison's name for mistakes made during the recording of his 'Cloud Nine' album, i.e. "We'll bury it in the mix".
The group were originally named The Trembling Wilburys.
Their second album, recorded after the death of Roy Orbison was hilariously called 'Traveling Wilburys Vol.3'.
For album two, the Wilburys changed pseudonyms: George Harrison - Spike Wilbury, Jeff Lynne - Clayton Wilbury, Tom Petty - Muddy Wilbury, Bob Dylan - Boo Wilbury.
Del Shannon was considered as a replacement for Orbison, however the 60s rock 'n' roller committed suicide in February 1990. The band recorded his hit 'Runaway', that same year.
Two further band members are named with the release of 2007's 'Traveling Wilbury Collection'. Harrison's son Dani is credited as Aryton Wilbury, while session drummer Jim Keltner becomes Buster Sidebury.
So now you know what a Wilbury is!
