Throughout his time with the Rolling Stones, Michael Philip Jagger has maintained not only a career in the movies but a highly respectable sideline as a solo recording artist, releasing four albums over the last 20 years.

Jagger's first release away from the band came in 1970 as part of the soundtrack to the film Performance, in which he also starred. 'Memo From Turner' was a rerecording of an earlier Stones demo, credited to Jagger/Richards despite Keith neither co-writing or playing on the track. The single reached number 32 in the UK charts. Mick didn't branch out again until 1978 with 'Don't Look Back', a duet with reggae star Peter Tosh. And then six years later with The Jacksons on 'State Of Shock'. But 1985 saw the first solo album by the singer with 'She's The Boss'. Produced by Jagger, Bill Laswell and Chic guitarist Nile Rogers, She's The Boss utilized a contemporary synthesized sound much to the consternation of Keith Richards, who allegedly penned the song 'You Don't Move Me' in response to Mick's new and independent direction.

Solo success continued with Jagger and Bowie's cover of 'Dancing In the Street' which became the Stones frontman's only UK number one without the band, after the duo performed at Live Aid (with all profits going to the charity).

Nineteen eighty seven's 'Primitive Cool' album, released during another period of tension between Jagger and Richards, was part produced by Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics and featured the single 'Let's Work' and a song believed to be a retort to Keith's previous disparaging remarks, 'Shoot Off Your Mouth'.

It would be six years before Mick would record alone again. This time, with the boys' feud over, 'Wandering Spirit' was a highly lauded guitar rock record, with legendary producer Rick Rubin at the helm and featuring Chili Peppers bassist Flea and even a duet with Lenny Kravitz. Both the album and lead single 'Sweet Thing' proved hits on both sides of the Atlantic.

Mick's last solo album to date was the critically-acclaimed 'Goddess In The Doorway'. Released in 2001 it featured a stellar line up of guest musicians, including Pete Townshend and Bono.

'The Very Best Of Mick Jagger' features 17 choice selections from his solo career, along with three previously unreleased tracks and a DVD of music videos and interviews.
